What gets published

MPC rate decision

Bank Rate decision by majority vote of the 9-member MPC. Published at 12:00 GMT with the vote split (e.g., 7-2 hold, 5-4 cut). The vote split is often as market-moving as the decision itself — a 5-4 vote for a hold is much more dovish than a 9-0 hold.

Monetary Policy Summary

A 2–3 page summary of the MPC's assessment of economic conditions, risks to inflation, and the reasoning for the rate decision. This is not an MPR meeting — no new quarterly projections are published. The Summary covers the change in assessments since the last MPR (August 2026).

Minutes of the meeting

Detailed minutes of the MPC deliberations, published simultaneously with the decision. Minutes reveal the arguments made by each side of any split, the range of views on the economic outlook, and any significant dissents.

How to read it

1
The vote split matters as much as the decision

An MPC hold with a 6-3 or 5-4 vote (three or four members voting for a cut) is substantively different from a 9-0 hold. A close vote signals that the committee is close to cutting at the next meeting and is highly sensitive to incoming data. Watch the vote breakdown in the Monetary Policy Summary at 12:00. Historically, a 5-4 split has led to action at the subsequent meeting in the majority of cases.

2
Watch for guidance on the December meeting

The Monetary Policy Summary will include language on the MPC's assessment of the "appropriate path" for Bank Rate. If it includes explicit language about expecting further easing "at a gradual pace," this is dovish. If it says the MPC "remains vigilant to services inflation persistence," this is more hawkish. The November decision is not an MPR meeting — new projections are not published — so language is the primary communication channel.
